Journaling Guide

This guide will walk you through how to use the W.E.L.L method to bring depth and understanding to your Bible study and journaling. Each letter highlights an observation and a personal application.

The W.E.L.L method begins with worship. This is designed to train our minds to place the main and first emphasis in our journaling on who God is and what he does. God alone is worthy of all or worship and praise.

  • Step 1: How does the author acknowledge how who God is and what God does effect his perspective?
  • Step 2: Personally acknowledge how God’s character and nature informs your perspective on your life and circumstances.

After reflecting on truth about God, the next step is to observe the context of Scripture.

  • Step 1: What is the author dealing with in this passage? Does he convey joy, longing, fear, hope, sorrow, etc.?
  • Step 2: What is a current or past circumstance you have experienced in relation to this passage?

Listen is meant to encourage self-reflection. It gives you a chance to share how a Bible verse resonates with you or to talk about the challenges you’re facing in your life.

  • Step 1: How does the author acknowledge how who God is and what God does effect his perspective?
  • Step 2: Personally acknowledge how God’s character and nature informs your perspective on your life and circumstances.

W.E.L.L concludes with prayerful reflection on the passage.

  • Step 1: How can I trust and depend on what God has revealed?
  • Step 2: Conclude with honest reflection on how Scripture applies to your life.
